About Bushra

Bushra Barghouthi is a Palestinian Filmmaker and Photographer who was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and is now based in Ramallah, Palestine. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Film Production from Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem. Her work spans short films, video art, and documentary photography, with a focus on personal narratives, urban landscapes, and cultural preservation.

She leans towards experimentation, believing that pure art emerges in a certain rhythm and cannot be forced otherwise. Bushra is committed to serving independent Arab and Palestinian cinema, using her work to amplify marginalized voices and stories.

In 2022 she co-founded the Citadel Cinema Club in Beit Sahour, where she screened over 100 films, sparking lively discussions and showcasing new student and independent Arab/world cinema.

Bushra has directed several short films, including Wadi Al-Salib: Two Minutes, which screened at the Palestinian Film Festival Amsterdam, Palinale Berlin, and Marseille’s /si:n/ Festival. She recently completed a screening internship with the BlackStar Film Festival, reviewing works by Black, Brown, and Indigenous filmmakers. Currently, she is volunteering with the film programming team at the MENA Film Festival.

بشـرى البرغوثي صانعة أفلام ومصورة فوتوغرافية فلسطينية وُلدت في مكة، المملكة العربية السعودية، وهي حالياً مقيمة في رام الله، فلسطين. حاصلة على درجة البكالوريوس في إنتاج الأفلام من جامعة دار الكلمة في بيت لحم. تمتد أعمالها بين الأفلام القصيرة وفن الفيديو والتصوير الوثائقي، مع تركيزها على السرد الشخصي، الثقافة والمناظر الحضرية

تميل الى منهجية تجريبية في اعمالها الفنية، حيث تؤمن أن الفن النقي ينبثق في تدفق خاص به ولا يمكن إجباره على الخروج بخلاف ذلك. تلتزم بخدمة السينما العربية والفلسطينية المستقلة، وتستعمل عملها لتسليط الضوء على الأصوات التي لا تصل الى الجمهور بشكل واسع

في عام 2022، أسست بشـرى نادي سينما القلعة في بيت ساحور، حيث قامت بعرض أكثر من 100 فيلم، مما أثار نقاشات فاعلة وعرض أصوات جديدة من السينما المستقلة العالمية والعربية وافلام الطلبة

قامت بإخراج عدة أفلام قصيرة، بما في ذلك فيلم "وادي الصليب: دقيقتان" الذي تم عرضه في مهرجان الفيلم الفلسطيني في أمستردام، مهرجان باليناليه في برلين، وتم عرضه في عدة مواقع حول العالم ضمن مهرجان س الذي بدأ من مرسيليا ورام الله مع مؤسسة عبد المحسن القطان وانستانت فيديو. أنهت مؤخرًا تدريبًا لبرمجة الأفلام في مهرجان بلاكستار للأفلام في فيلدلفيا، حيث قامت بمراجعة أعمال مخرجي الأفلام من السود، والملونين، والشعوب الأصلية. . حالياً، تعمل عن بعد كمتطوعة لبرمجة الأفلام مع مهرجان مينا للافلام في فانكوفر، كندا

Founder, Film Programmer & Host of The Citadel Cinema Club, Beit Sahour
March 2022 – October 2023

Bushra founded The Citadel Cinema Club as the first and only community cinema in Beit Sahour, located in The Citadel—a historic former school transformed into a cultural space. From March 2022 to October 2023, the club became a vibrant platform for collective viewing, critical dialogue, and creative exchange.

Over this period, Bushra organized 80+ public screenings, averaging 30–60 attendees, and successfully doubled audience engagement within the first six months. The program included post-screening discussions, workshops, and curated film series exploring themes such as social justice, liberation, and identity. We regularly hosted local and international filmmakers for Q&As and collaborations.

The club also offered a space for test screenings, providing filmmakers with a supportive environment for feedback and conversation around works-in-progress. Through partnerships with over five cultural and academic institutions, The Citadel Cinema Club became a hub for cinematic thinking and community gathering in Beit Sahour.
